Due to the drought crisis, AUS dive crews relocated Echo Bay’s water intake barge to deeper water
on Echo Bay, Lake Mead.
As Lake Mead’s water levels reached historic lows, AUS dive crews moved the water intake barge with four concrete anchors to deeper water. AUS crews also extended the water and electrical distribution to the new barge location. Relocating the barge allows for cooler water from greater depths to be pumped to water tanks on the beach, ensuring surrounding communities will continue to have access to water.
According the U.S. National Park Service, Lake Mead currently provides municipal water for the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Boulder City, Nevada, as well as municipal and industrial water and irrigation water for downstream users.
